Biokinetics is defined as the science of movement and the application of exercise in rehabilitative treatment or performance enhancement.

In other words, LIFE THROUGH MOVEMENT.

What does a Biokineticist do?

A biokineticist is an exercise specialist that functions as part of the allied health medical team and is recognized by and registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa. The biokineticist performs scientific movement and functionality assessments after which exercises is prescribed to improve a person’s physical status and quality of life.

The biokineticist uses exercises as rehabilitative treatment modality for:

  • Final phase exercise rehabilitation of Sport and Orthopedic injuries

  • Final phase post-operative rehabilitation (i.e. knee / hip replacements, back and neck surgery, etc.) or prehabilitation (prescribing exercises prior to major musculoskeletal surgery),

  • Prehabilitation & Physical conditioning programs can also be prescribed for sports performance enhancement in both the recreational, as well as professional athletes.

  • Improvement of health in individuals with non-communicable diseases (heart diseases, lung diseases, diabetes, stroke) Individuals who needs to lose or gain weight
